A Mothers Gift Interview with Charlotte Hubbard and Review and Giveaway!

INTERVIEW 10

If you could have one paranormal ability, what would it be?
         I would like to be able to become invisible. Think how handy that could be—as long as I could control it!

What is one thing your readers would be most surprised to learn about you?
         When I was writing JOURNEY TO LOVE ( one of my early Angels or Mercy books) I bought an accordion and taught myself how to play it as part of my research!

Are you a plotter or a pantser?
         I’m a bit of both: I have to have a general idea of a book’s characters, story line, and some of the scenes that change the story’s direction before I can start writing—but then, I have to turn in such synopses to my editor ahead of time, too, so this information gets written down and submitted anyway. However, writing a 10-page synopsis for a 300 page book leaves you lots of opportunities for unexpected ideas and scenes, and I always like to go with these bursts of inspiration! I figure if a new turn of events or a line of dialog surprises ME, it will take my readers by surprise, as well.

Did you learn anything from writing this book? If so, what?
         I had to become (in my mind, at least) a rebellious, defiant teenage girl to write the twins, Alice and Adeline, in A MOTHER’S GIFT. When I was their age in reality, I would never have dared to defy my dad or go to a pool hall or sneak out my bedroom window in the night to run around with guys in a pickup truck!

A Mother’s Gift
by Charlotte Hubbard

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE:  Inspirational Romance (Amish)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

For Leah Otto, marrying Jude Shetler is a long-held dream come true. As a young girl, she was captivated by his good looks and talent as an auctioneer. When Jude, now a widower with three children, begins to court her, Leah doesn’t hesitate. Other men may not appreciate her tomboy ways, but Jude values Leah’s practical nature and her skill with the animals she tends, and both enter the marriage with joy and optimism.

Three months later, Leah feels as if her world is coming down around her. Her twin teenage step-daughters, Alice and Adeline, are pushing boundaries and taking far too many risks, while five-year-old Stevie deeply misses his mother. Leah, more at ease in a barn tending her goats and chickens than in a kitchen, struggles with her housekeeping duties.

Then a baby is abandoned on their doorstep, and Leah must search her soul. Caring for little Betsy fills her with renewed purpose and the strength to begin pulling her family together. With Jude’s steadfast support, Leah finds that what she once thought of as a happy ending may be something even better—the beginning of a life rich in love, faith, and unexpected blessings.

Excerpt Two:

“Leah, your life will change in ways you can’t anticipate when you marry,” Lenore began softly. She rested her head against the headboard, grasping her daughter’s hand. “When you move into a man’s home—”

“Oh, Mama, you’ve already told me what to expect in the bedroom,” Leah interrupted with a nervous giggle. “It’s not as though I haven’t seen the deer and the horses mating.”

Lenore closed her eyes, praying for words that would gently pierce the balloon of maidenly naiveté in which Leah seemed to live. “There’s more to marriage than mating,” she whispered earnestly. “You’ll be moving into a home where Jude and his kids have established their routine. We’ve both heard the rumors about how Alice and Adeline might be behaving inappropriately during their rumspringa—”

“They’re sixteen, and they’re very pretty,” Leah quickly pointed out. “Twins are inclined to get into double trouble as part of their nature at that age. I certainly found mischief during my running-around years.”

Lenore sighed again. She wished Raymond were here to help her with this difficult discussion.

 MY THOUGHTS

I don't think its ever easy coming into a situation where family has already been establish.  Each person is set in their own ways and some are just down right against it and refuse to be accepting of others. In a Mother's Gift by Charlotte Hubbard, she takes you on a journey through the eyes of Leah and how she learns how to become accepted into a family after the passing of Judes wife.

I thought Hubbard did a wonderful job demonstrating how to bring a family together, and despite the tears and frustrations that come, love never fails. I just loved this story and couldn't wait to see what happened with each turn of the page.  I would definitely give this book as a gift and would make a wonderful Mothers Day Gift.

I was given a copy of this book for my review for which I have given.

It is my pleasure and honor to have had Wanda answer a few questions for us. Thank you Wanda for taking the time out of your schedule to let us know what you have been doing and what inspires you to write.  Wanda Brunstetter Q&A QUESTION 1: When is the earliest that you remember having a passion for writing? Response: From the time I began reading I started writing short stories and poems. I had an imagination as a child. When I was in second grade I wrote a poem about a moth. My teacher thought it was good and said I might someday become an author. That little seed she planted encouraged me to keep writing. QUESTION 2: From all of the different genres that you could have chosen, how did you decide upon Amish life as your primary focus? Response: I chose the Amish life to write about because through my husband, who has a Mennonite background, I met and became friends with many Amish people, whom we have come to know and love.
