Starting From Scratch

Starting from Scratch

(Lancaster Discoveries series, Book 2)
An Old Flame Brings a Spark of New Hope
En Alt Maedel—an old maid.
At age twenty-nine, that’s what Eva Lapp considers herself. And who could argue with her? Finding a good Amish husband at her age will be next to impossible. Plus, Eva’s unwarranted bad reputation in Lancaster County precedes her. Maybe living the Englisch life would be better.
Squeezed out of her childhood home by her brother’s boisterous family, Eva finds lodging and a new job managing a small café at a local plant nursery. But the challenge of her new position isn’t enough to distract from her current predicament.
To Eva’s surprise, her first love, Jake Miller, suddenly returns to Lancaster County. Flooded with emotions and filled with questions about Jake’s past, can Eva trust what she’s feeling?
Jake and Eva face many obstacles in their quest for a fresh start in the community, but perhaps with God’s help, they can find the redemption they both desperately need.

My Thought

Kate Lloyd's most recent release Starting from Scratch is her second book in her Lancaster Discover Series I think is the best so far.

Lloyd sure takes you on an adventure with Eve, Jake and a few others. I truly couldn't figure out what was going to happen next. The suspense that Kate brought had me flipping the pages faster then I could read at times. I loved every moment and especially how this story unfolded at the end.

I give this story 5 out 5 starts and would highly recommend that you add this book to your library or give as a gift.

I was given this book for my review from the publisher which I have given.

Response: From the time I began reading I started writing short stories and poems. I had an imagination as a child. When I was in second grade I wrote a poem about a moth. My teacher thought it was good and said I might someday become an author. That little seed she planted encouraged me to keep writing. QUESTION 2: From all of the different genres that you could have chosen, how did you decide upon Amish life as your primary focus? Response: I chose the Amish life to write about because through my husband, who has a Mennonite background, I met and became friends with many Amish people, whom we have come to know and love. I have a d

Something Old by Diane Christner   Something Old , the first book in a series of Plain City Bridesmaid, takes place in Plain City , Ohio , where young Katy Yoder is living her life as a Conservative Mennonite. Nursing a heart broken by her love Jake Byler when he left the faith, Katy moves on and recovers in a life of peace and simplicity. That is, until her world becomes turbulent when Jake returns seeking redemption from the church and forgiveness from her heart.   Confused, angry, and torn, Katy faces a difficult test of faith as she seeks the strength of God to forgive a man who hurt her so deeply. Her journey is one that is painfully familiar, the struggle to forgive those who have wounded us. It is in these times that we are vulnerable to temptation, to weakness of spirit, and indulgence in anger. Katy's story is one of courage that shows us how faith can show us the way, even when  we wonder if God is listening. A wonderful story of heartbreak and triumph with
