New Beginnings & Giveaway

September 24, 2019

Promise Lodge, Book 4
Spring blossoms with new life and new beginnings for the flourishing Amish community of Promise Lodge. And as a just-opened bakery sweetens the air with fresh-baked goodness, residents will find that change can be a most joyous test . . .
Recently widowed after twenty years of marriage, Frances Lehman is only just tasting the freedom and opportunity that her Promise Lodge friends enjoy. So she’s not about to be pressured into marriage by her widowed brother-in-law, even if she and her daughter have no real means of support. Much more promising is her new friendship with Preacher Marlin Kurtz, though their respective families don’t see their relationship as proper . . .
When Frances suffers a serious injury, she’s determined to prove she can recover—and remain independent—without burdening Marlin. Now, with his steadfast belief in real love tested, Marlin’s hope is that Promise Lodge’s irrepressible residents can help him restore Frances’s joy—and that faith will show them a way to turn their fragile second chance into a blessed and abiding future together . . .

MY THOUGHTS

Another journey back to Promise Lodge and you won't be disappointed. New Beginnings is just another wonderfully written book that has been added to this series by Charlotte Hubbard. What makes this series so great? It has to do with the way Charlotte writes about the people and the community. How each person will go out of their way to make the others feel special. It is a book of hope and encouragement. One book and series you must add to your bookshelf.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Many moons ago—like, in 1983 while I was still a school librarian—I sold my first story to True Storymagazine. This launched me into writing about seventy of those “true confessions” stories over the years, and I’ve been a slave to my overactive imagination ever since.

The next big step was selling my first historical romance in 1990, a Zebra Heartfire called Colorado Captive. I quickly sold five more in that genre. They’re all out of print now, but available from used bookstores or at Amazon.com and BN.com. I’ve brought them back in digital format with beautiful new covers, which you can see on my Historical Romances page.
After a long dry spell that entailed major changes in the publishing industry, I resurfaced in a new genre, with a new publisher, editor, and agent who were so excited about my Angels of Mercy series! These four faith-and-family stories are also out of print now, but available at Amazon as Kindle e-books. With Law of Attraction (The Love Secret), I moved into new territory once again—and once again the setting is a place I love to spend time: the Oregon Coast.
Being an author is great fun when you’re selling, but it’s best to have a hide like a rhinoceros and a spouse who gets a regular paycheck! Patience, persistence and just flat-out luck have given me this opportunity to reinvent myself yet again. Those angels I write about keep pulling me through, and are often my friends and family—but I owe a lot to the heavenly beings who bear me up on their wings, as well!
My stories invariably take on a life of their own, different from the way I’ve proposed them: I love it when unforeseen characters and plot twists come along, because they keep me guessing right along with my readers!
I often present workshops at conferences. I belong to Novelists, Inc. and American Christian Fiction Writers.
I love touring historic homes, trying new recipes, crocheting, and playing with my Border collie, Vera—although it’s humbling, having a dog smarter than I am! I’m an ordained Presbyterian deacon, and I devote a lot of time to singing in my church choir, ringing in bell choir, and being a substitute organist. I’m celebrating more than forty-two years with my husband, who—bless him—has never once suggested I get a real job!

  3. Charlotte, my mother used to receive True Story in the mail monthly. I wondered if all the stories were "true" or someone selling stories. I strongly suspected they were not all true because I read one spell-binding story and some time later that story was re-worked, changing only where the young man was from. No way could all those particulars happen to someone else that way.
    Now I know :)

Wanda Brunstetter Q&A and Giveaway!

It is my pleasure and honor to have had Wanda answer a few questions for us. Thank you Wanda for taking the time out of your schedule to let us know what you have been doing and what inspires you to write.  Wanda Brunstetter Q&A QUESTION 1: When is the earliest that you remember having a passion for writing? Response: From the time I began reading I started writing short stories and poems. I had an imagination as a child. When I was in second grade I wrote a poem about a moth. My teacher thought it was good and said I might someday become an author. That little seed she planted encouraged me to keep writing. QUESTION 2: From all of the different genres that you could have chosen, how did you decide upon Amish life as your primary focus? Response: I chose the Amish life to write about because through my husband, who has a Mennonite background, I met and became friends with many Amish people, whom we have come to know and love. I have...

Weddings at Promise Lodge by Charlotte Hubbard ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ GENRE : Inspirational (romance) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ BLURB: When Bishop Monroe is forced to confess the truth about his relationship with young Leola before the entire congregation, he can only pray that open hearts and minds will allow him a future at Promise Lodge—with Christine. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ EXCERPTS As Christine Hershberger sat on the front pew bench, close enough to bask in the glow of her sister Mattie’s joy, she smiled brightly. At long last, she was attending the wedding that should’ve taken place years ago, when Mattie Bender and Amos Troyer were young and so deeply in love¬—before Dat had insisted that Mattie marry Marvin Schwartz instead. Now that Mattie and Preacher Amos had outlived their original mates, they were standing together, hand in hand, repeating the age-old vows after their new bishop, Monroe Burkholder. Christine, who’d lost her husband a couple of years ag...
Something Old by Diane Christner   Something Old , the first book in a series of Plain City Bridesmaid, takes place in Plain City , Ohio , where young Katy Yoder is living her life as a Conservative Mennonite. Nursing a heart broken by her love Jake Byler when he left the faith, Katy moves on and recovers in a life of peace and simplicity. That is, until her world becomes turbulent when Jake returns seeking redemption from the church and forgiveness from her heart.   Confused, angry, and torn, Katy faces a difficult test of faith as she seeks the strength of God to forgive a man who hurt her so deeply. Her journey is one that is painfully familiar, the struggle to forgive those who have wounded us. It is in these times that we are vulnerable to temptation, to weakness of spirit, and indulgence in anger. Katy's story is one of courage that shows us how faith can show us the way, even when  we wonder if God is listening. A w...
